A lesson in seasons I always wonder how people live where there are no seasons no summer to teach them to boil over with opinions no fall to learn the artistry of old age no winter to remind them to be quiet no spring to be lavish with new ideas as the summer blasts her last swollen words I understand that this is her way of grilling me what makes you think your euphoria should be tamed.

new things...

you may have noticed a few changes around here... a little yellow... a little newness... something fun and fresh!

well i am happy to announce that this is just the beginning... Photography by Anastasia Chomlack is getting a face lift... it is taking longer then I thought... I should have known! And all my weird perfectionist behavior is coming out in the project making it a little bit of torture for me... and all those around me!! 

So keep posted... keep coming back... 

I have some exciting announcements to make... some changes... 

My friends have had to listen to me chat about shades of color for too long... and one friend to celebrate my final decision just sent me the most amazing gift all the way form Australia...

lola

today i woke up and just needed to photograph... i needed to feel creative, and i needed to get outside.
the sun was shining... my boys were full of energy... it seemed the perfect day for a walk...

so... we called our friend justin and asked if we could borrow Lola for a couple hours...

i wanted a challenge for photography.

lately i have been inspired by http://www.erinvey.com and http://www.rouxby.com/blog
and was curious if i could pull something off like that here... in whistler... land of the dog lovers!!

here is what i came up with... of lola and of my sweet boys who maybe need a dog... hmmmm.

lola.... annoyed at me and my camera... wanting to run with the boys... lol

so... yes... i am offering dog sessions...
and a special offer until the 15th of march... so call for info!

and then the little men in my life....

have a great weekend... we are off to seattle to photograph the first wedding of the year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I am back in the office! And I am SO excited for 2009!! We have so much newness planned in the next couple months it is just an exciting time!! 

For now... I need to go and getting proofing... 

I will post lots in the next couple days to make up for being gone for so long!!

CHRISTMAS!?!???!

I know.... 

only one day past halloween and this word... this holiday... this time of celebration is going to start popping up everywhere.... so i thought i would get on it early here too... 

To your right you will find a little album named 'Christmas Cards'!! This year instead of booking mini sessions for families to get photos for christmas cards I am simply offering Christmas cards to past clients and clients up until November 10th to order with a photo from your session (2008 sessions only)... you will not have to pay for the photo.... just for the cards which are sold in sets of 24. 

IF... you were really counting on the mini session and November just crept up on you (like it did to me)... then send me an email.... I am considering opening one day of sessions for up to 6 families... pending interest/ and weather. 

The cut off date for ordering your Christmas Cards is november 10th... however earlier is better as you will be able to get the cards written and mailed earlier!! (don't be like me... i still have mine in my desk from last year!!)

school photos and my musings...

Due to my serious lack of cupcake making throughout the year... I decided to make up all my volunteer time for the school and offer to photograph the school photos. How hard can it be?? I am a professional CHILDRENS photographer. Hmmm... well... let me tell you... it was harder then I thought. I pride myself on the natural smiles I capture in children... the ease I have in relating to them... 

Not so much when said child is sitting in front of their whole class and that class is staring at them!! That there is the difference. Now... match that with the elements... sunny day... squinty light... wind flying their hair this way and that... and again... the class... the whole class staring at them. Who can possible handle that pressure???!?!? LOL

And really... here is the thing about class photos that may... or may not get me invited back next year... 

I personally... really like the horrible dorky... forced smile and funny image of the typical class photo.... i like looking back at my own and laughing... what was i wearing... what was i thinking to look like that?? So... it took everything in me to choose the 'nice' photo for these kids... when really I wanted to pick the funny random photo!! 

well... here are a few... 

some typical because well... i guess i had to... and then... some that are a little more me... some fun class photos and some hilarious individual ones... a bit more candid... like the one of the girl kissing a slug... because honestly if i had a girl.... i would want a photo that reminded me about how when she was 10 she kissed slugs... not that she could sit up perfectly in a chair and say "cheese"!!

I get feedback that makes me cry!! That makes me thrilled to do what I do... 

 I just wanted to pass on that when Andrea's Dad was putting her to bed on the night of the photo shoot and asked her how it went she said
" It was wonderful. The photographer was so kind and gentle and she really loved me."

i know that is so bad... but seriously... i love that show... and i love merideth... and i love that they got together... and i LOVE that there is no annoying cliff hangers... because... i like things wrapped up with boys and prettiness... so.... yay...

my friend and i were recently talking about body language... you can just tell what people are thinking about the way they stand... the way they walk... how relationships are with the what people lean into each other or don't at all...

i am a part of a huge photography forum and i have people comment on my photos all the time. the one good comment i am used to getting is that i photograph interaction well... people always seem to be so in love... the moments of intimacy just captured...

i LOVE hearing that... THAT is what I want to do... I want to capture these moments...
i luck out with having clients with fantastic body language... families that are filled with joy... couples madly in love...

in the midst of this conversation i found this photo... and thought it was a clear representation of some AMAZING body language... someone took this with my camera at a party last year... me... making out with my man!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this photo... and am so thankful to whoever took it.... I think it shows such truth... that I ADORE my husband, that I think he is the hottest man on earth.... and that I LOVE to KISS him!!!! I am proud that he is my husband... and i want or notice no one else.

Of course not all body language needs to be so apparent... i mean honestly I realize this is nearly scandalizing!!! LOL ...but it is the gently hand grasp... the sweet look between two people... the body's leaning in close to listen to a secret.... or to just be close... it is all these things that make fantastic photos!!

WORLD WATER DAY!!!!!

okay... i KNOW... I KNOW... every so often i post these social justice threads...
it has NOTHING to do with photography... BUT... it has everything to do with me... and my values... so if you read this blog... you will just HAVE to get used to this!! LOL

Knowledge is power... when we know what is going on... when we learn how we can help... we might actually do it. In the past I have highlighted the stephen lewis foundation, world aids day, world vision, the green living show, bicycles for humanity... all of these have stuck out to me... their mission and values...

We have personally been a part of sending hundreds of people out to the world; Africa, and India, Thailand... to serve and help where we can.... and we continue to do so...

SO.... today... is world water day... and this organization was headed by this AMAZING photographer... and I LOVE it. So please... take a minute... click on here... WATCH WATCH WATCH the video.... get knowledge... have power... make a difference.

Starting in 2008 I am adding the Stephen Lewis Foundation to my list... I had the honor of hearing him speak this last month in Whistler and was deeply touched by his stories and his cause.

I thought it was fitting to share this part of my business today... on World AIDS day... I want you to know that when you hire me to take your photos you are a part of something much larger then yourself.... or me... That you are a part of giving generously to our world.
