It was such an amazing compliment when I first got the email from this mom- asking for not one session but three- wanting to capture a year of this precious little ones life. And it was a further compliment when they additionally booked the add on video portion. We are trying to set a story of their life... as it is right now- going to the places they go- seeing and experiencing this little ones story.
For session number one we started at home dancing to music, playing in her room- and then went to a favortite coffee shop. You can view that session here.
For this second session we met for a picnic- feasted on macarons from Soirette - Went to Collage Collage to read books and play with crafts, and then headed to the community garden to pick peas and flowers... the perfect afternoon.
Just a delightful family- and a very very loved little girl.

What I love about Whistler is that I find a new place to photograph every week.
When we moved this last summer a whole new area opened up to me- little nooks and cranny's in the forest, by the lakes and spots of light as the seasons change. This is my secret spot.. I love it...
And I love this family... I felt like this session was so them- just relaxed and fun and beautiful.

these delightful little ones had me running and often in two directions as we explored around the neighborhood! it is always an absolute joy to work with such loving families!
as an added bonus this family also ordered the add on video (i love this option as it gives me the chance to work with the talented weddings in motion) - i think it is the perfect compliment to the photos.

They had a baby girl! SO cute, so sweet.... i love everything about photographing babies- the sweet newness- the little noises and looks- all of it. And then I love handing the baby back to the tired parents and coming home and sleeping through the night:)

a special shout out to Collage Collage- I am still wearing my magazine bead necklace!
one mom said this "we spend almost all week telling our kids what to do, and where to go- how great to have this environment where all day they call the shots- i want to dance, lets do a craft- get photos taken and dance again-" ... that sums it up... it was full kid magic!

This little one could not be sweeter. Such a beautiful family.
She was on the run the whole time- exploring her world! It was the perfect age to be photographed, as well as for video. I am pleased to announce the addition of Weddings in Motion to my Family Shoots. You now will have the option of having your session on video- made as a home video. I love that we are offering this as it is exactly what I would want for myself and for my family!
Enjoy XO
some at home....
some at little nest
and a valiant effort for a family photo!
Although I love this set of images... we need to reshoot this one with some nicer weather:) and this family lives in Calgary- which means I am taking a road trip! And it means I am scheduling family sessions in Calgary for the spring. Please email me to book your session! I will be accepting 5 spots.
Thanks,
Anastasia
I have an addiction to Top Chef... actually the food channel in general.
One thing I have found to be coming up a lot lately is the concept of Pop Up.... I first saw it in Pop Up restaurants. A famous chef will go to a new city and open a restaurant that will only stay open for a week to a month. Sometimes it will have a theme... sometimes it is underground meaning only word of mouth. Then the other week I stopped in at an adorable store in Gastown, Vancouver and started chatting with the owner... she told me they were only there for another week... that it was a Pop Up store. I was intrigued and it got me thinking about the way I photograph mini shoots... my value in wanting to have local whistlerites have access to updated photos throughout the year... the fact that it is winter for most of the year here and how that limits outdoor photos to mostly summer months which well... does not really always work for me or my clients...
And it came to me. POP UP STUDIO.
I will be offering these sessions throughout the year. They will be announced through the blog/ Facebook and Twitter. They will be announced 1 week before the date. And they will have themes... not cheesy angel wings and teddy bears in baskets themes... but funky different kid fun unique themes.
The sessions will be KIDS ONLY. The sessions will be 50% off my regular prices. The sessions will be fun, fast and stress free. They will make your kids feel like they were at a playdate or party... they will make you ohhh and ahhhh over the photos... they will make your family members stop complaining about the lack of updated photos.
The next session in scheduled for February 5th 2012.
The theme is Valentines day... and as a bonus to this session I will be designing a digital card for you to have by February 14th just in time for Valentines Day. Email me to book your session- space is limited!
THANKS- XOXOXOXO
As my boys get older I find myself looking to families with older children...
looking for inspiration, direction... really anything that is going to tell me it is all going to be okay.
This winter as I went to meet this family for photos... my thoughts were not on parenting. But they soon moved that way... watching the way these older kids interacted with the parents and with each other was inspiring. There was so much respect, laughter, and fun.
I hope one day I can go away on vacation with my boys and get photos taken that show not just a family- but a friendship. xo
photographing this family is what started my career as a family photographer.
begging this mom to come over with bribes of coffee and treats if she would let me photograph her kids is really what started me thinking i could maybe one day do this...
they are busier now... 2 small baby girls became 4 kids... and i seldom get to photograph them... but the other night we got the opportunity to just spend 15 minutes in a field... and capture them... as they are now... and i love that. i love who they are... xo
